Under the “Create Hangzhou” platform, multiple Hangzhou cultural and creative brands have recently hit international exhibitions.
At the 89th Florence International Handicrafts Fair, international visitors lined up at the booth of the Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum to try their hand at painting white-glazed porcelain. On-site, Master Zhen Jinghu guided them through the process. This year’s exhibition also featured creative showcases from Xihu district, Yuhang district, Jiande city, Chun’an county, the Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum, as well as the popular Panda IP, Rua Rua Panda. These cultural and creative products, covering paper-cutting artworks, teaware, and handcrafted items, attracted thousands of order inquiries from attendees.
In the meantime, HKTDC Hong Kong Gifts & Premium Fair saw 13 Hangzhou creative brands bring Eastern aesthetics to the global hub of Hong Kong. Among them, Wanfeng Mortise and Tenon amazed visitors with their interactive woodworking models. Many attendees, after learning about the intricate mortise-and-tenon structures, eagerly tried them out and praised them as the “Lego of the East”. Numerous products with traditional Chinese elements drew major international buyers, including Turkish Airlines, Porsche, and The Peninsula Hotels.
These initiatives also fostered intercity cultural exchange. “Create Hangzhou” brought embroidered art and traditional Hangzhou fans to the 39th Liling Ceramics Festival. Master artisan Wang Mei demonstrated exquisite Hangzhou embroidery techniques on-site; Master Ding Guofu also painted fan surfaces and introduced the origin of impromptu fan calligraphy which can be traced back to the Song dynasty. Both masters collaborated with global artists at the event, sparking dialogue and creative fusion among craft traditions.
