The Nepal National Pavilion (Hangzhou) was recently unveiled in Hangzhou’s Gongshu district. This year marks the seven-decade milestone of bilateral ties between the two nations.

Nestled along the historic Grand Canal, the Nepal National Pavilion is housed in Gaojia Garden (No. 8, Fengjing Street, Gongchenqiao Subdistrict). This hidden gem, shaded by lush greenery and winding pathways, once served as the residence of Gao Yicheng, operator of Tongyi Gong Cotton Mill. It stands as the only well-preserved Qing Dynasty-era private garden and architectural complex in Gongshu district. Stepping into the pavilion, visitors are transported to the heart of Nepal. The exhibits range from intricate handicrafts, Thangka paintings, and jewelry to carpets, singing bowls, cashmere products, traditional herbs, teas, and coffee, offering a panoramic view into Nepal’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.

In 1999, Hangzhou and Lalitpur (Patan) established sister-city ties, fostering ongoing exchanges between governments, chambers of commerce, enterprises, artisans, performing troupes, and youth groups. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to China, stated in his address, “While Lalitpur is a tapestry of rich art and culture of Nepal, Hangzhou exemplifies a city preserving traditional heritage along with the advancement of modern technology. Lalitpur and Hangzhou hold tremendous potential to further enhance the bilateral friendship between the two countries.”
