Tucked away from the hustles and bustles in the Zhengyuan Farmer's Market in west of Hangzhou city, a new hot pot spot is quickly gaining popularity.
Opened on Oct 25, this humble little restaurant is super easy to miss if you don't know where to look at. Venture inside the market's east entrance and you'll spot it on the left.
The menu stars freshly sliced beef from Guizhou province, seared right before your eyes and served piping hot. You can get a combo for two at just 66 yuan and that for ten at 339 yuan, in another word, around 30 yuan per person.
Here is the crazy part -- there are no veggies provided! Instead, you're supposed to buy them fresh from the farmer's stalls and give them to the chef to process them for you.
Reviews on Dianping app give it 4.5 out of 5 stars. According to a user of the app: the freshly sliced beef is super tender and delicious. A few seconds dipping it in the hot pot would make it perfect. Dressed with the individualized sauce and sesame or peanut butter, it tastes so good.
It is the only stand selling ready-to-eat crispy fish, a nice unique option in the market. Quite a few customers came by to buy veggies and picked up the crispy fish takeout.
Of course, an open-air hot pot place in a busy market does not have the classiest ambiance. The tables are packed tightly together, and the overall vibe is chaotic, to say the least.
But if you're looking for legit, no-frills hot pot at a steal of a price, this spot should be on your radar. The smells of the farmer's market and sizzling beef creates an atmosphere that's utterly unique.
