Hangzhou youths made a big impression at the 14th Jeju International Youth Forum from Oct 31 to Nov 3, by confidently presenting their city and extending a warm invitation to the world.
The forum centered on topics of Education Equity, Campus Safety, Climate Change, and Ideology Extremism. Young delegates from different countries shared their ideas and solutions, sparking lively discussions and collaborations.
All the four students representing Hangzhou are from the English Club of Hangzhou Youth & Children's Center.
As addressing the issue of educational equity, Shan Yi from the Hangzhou Foreign Languages School, Cambridge A-level Center, proposed a collaborative endeavor spearheaded by the government, in conjunction with the community, libraries, and technology companies, aimed at providing discounted device purchases and opportunities for extracurricular computer exposure to students.
On the subjects of campus safety and peacebuilding, Huang Caizhou from Hangzhou High School, and Xu Xingyan from Wenyuan Secondary School of Hangzhou Xuejun High School Education Group, called on the youths globally to be engaged in extensive reading, there by enhancing cognitive capabilities and fostering independent and critical thinking skills. As to the matter of climate change, Li Shenxin from Hangzhou No.14 High School, AP Center, advocated the energy conservation practices.
During the four-day event, the young people stood out with their English skills, leadership, and teamwork. Their teacher, Ye Lingfei, commended them for airing their opinions while respecting others' perspectives. "These young people from Hangzhou have personally been praised multiple times by the organizing committee and officials during the event, showcasing the confidence and awareness of the Hangzhou youths to the world, "she said.
On the final evening, their talents were displayed with a spectacular performance. They were the only team to present a variety of acts, including introductions, flute performances, Song Dynasty-inspired dances, and traditional brush pen calligraphy. They made the entire arrangement on themselves, incorporating videos that displaying Hangzhou's history and future. Their message to the world was clear: "Welcome to Hangzhou!"
