As the temperature in Hangzhou is soaring, a total of 275 sunshades are expected to be installed by the end of May at various road intersections across the city to shade bike riders and pedestrians waiting for traffic lights.

This year, the sunshades will be introduced to the districts of Shangcheng, Gongshu, and Xihu. Based on the sites in previous years, the Hangzhou City Management Bureau has identified 201 installation points for 105 intersections. The remaining 74 sites will be finally determined in consideration of public suggestions. As for other districts, the implementation will be preceded in an orderly manner based on the actual traffic situation and with reference to the main urban areas.

The sunshades installed this year follow the same model introduced last year, but has been modified for easy assembly and disassembly. Fixed with bolts to the ground, some of these sunshades adopt a detachable double-pole column, making installation easy and capable of resisting Category 8 typhoon. The roofs are made of blue-green high-definition spray cloth printed with Hangzhou's iconic scenic spots such as the Broken Bridge.

This year, there will be no commercials on the sunshades, creating a visually simple and refreshing appearance, but the elements of Hangzhou will be incorporated into them to showcase the city's charm. Their dome-shaped roofs have also been changed into slanted ones.

Hangzhou is reported to add, adjust, and optimize the sunshades according to the needs of the residents and the actual situation.
